What is window film and why do I need it?
Window film is a microthin film composed of polyester and metallized coatings bonded by adhesives that is installed onto glass surfaces to provide significant solar protection.  It screens out heat, blocks out 99% of the sun’s damaging ultraviolet rays and deflects glare while allowing natural sunlight to pass through.  It can turn regular glass into safety glass by increasing strength up to 300%.  The most significant indicator to measure the films performance is the shading coefficient, expressed as a decimal.  Industry experts stress that a shading coefficient of at least .45 is needed.  Any number below .45 is better, and any above will be less effective.  Site studies show that every 100 sq. ft. of window film can reduce the HVAC load of a building by as much as 12,000 BTUs or 1 ton of heat.

How do you attach the film to my windows?  Will it be messy?
The film is carefully applied directly to the interior surface of the glass. The first step is to thoroughly clean the glass and frames. The film has an adhesive already applied at the factory, protected by a liner, which we remove prior to the application. There are no odors or chemicals used. A very small amount of liquid soap is used in the water. This "releases" the adhesive and allows the Film to be squeegeed to the glass. When installed properly, there are no bubbles or any distortion. The film is cut into the window, leaving a very thin, usually less than 1/8th of an inch margin around the edge. Most of the time this is imperceptible.  Towels and tarps protect the surroundings.  Regular drapes and window treatments are not affected and usually can remain in place. However, some window treatments need to be removed by the customer prior to the installation day.  Upon completion, the area and window is restored to original condition.

Will my windows be darker after you put the film on?
Our goal is to maintain as much naturalness and clarity as possible on your windows. If you have high windows, oftentimes the glare and heat of the sun requires us to install a more tinted film. However, it is still our goal to apply a film that provides you with the protection you need, without detracting from the view.  It is more of a hue change in the room rather than a “dark” appearance.  We want you to be 100% satisfied with our products and service.

How long will film last?
Today’s films can last more than twenty years. Realistically, windows in high traffic areas, such as sliding doors, or kitchen windows which get splattered with grease, may be replaced sooner. It is not unusual, however, that even these film panels will not be replaced for at least ten years.

What kind of warranty do you offer?
Comprehensive, industry leading, glass breakage and SED failure warranty

Should I have film put on all of my windows or only those facing the sun?
It is recommended that all sun-facing windows be treated.  If some windows receive less direct sun, we can apply a lighter film to those windows.  All windows transmit UV, regardless of whether they face direct sun or not.  If fading protection is the primary concern and there are delicate furnishings or artwork that need protection, then use of film is strongly recommended.

Can I put film on double paned windows?
Yes.  Independent tests confirm that the use of film is harmless to dual pane glass.
Back

How do I clean the windows after the film is installed?
Madico films can be cleaned with any commonly available window cleaner, such as Windex.  Use of a squeegee or soft cloth is recommended.  The interior surface is specially treated with an acrylic “hard coat” to protect th e film and allows easy cleaning, without fear of scratching.  Specific directions will be given to you upon completion of  installation by Visions.

Can window film be used on low E glass?
There are two basic types of low E glass.  One of these is a conductive coating put on glass as it is being made.  It gives some heat loss reduction, but does little to help reduce heat gain in a building.  The second type is a more complex system of multiple layers and conductive coatings deposited on glass after it has been made.  This type of low E glass gives heat rejection of 30%-50% in addition to reducing heat loss.  Adding window film can drastically increase the heat rejection.  Also, on average, low E glass only filters 56% of the damaging UV rays, while our films have the ability to filter 99%.  The combination of low E glass and window film can be the best overall system.

Will the window film kill my house plants?
In most cases, if the plant is already receiving adequate light, the use of window film will not harm it.  New growth or flowering may be retarded, and for a few days, the plant may go into a state of shock while it adjusts to the light change.  If a particular plant would normally wilt by the end of a sunny day, it will actually thrive better with the film installed.  There is a simple test which can be done prior to film installation; that is, merely move the plant to an area with less sunlight for a few days.  In addition, most nurseries or local agriculture agencies can advise you whether a particular plant needs to be closer to maximal or minimal light.

Will the film distort my view?
Our professional grade window films are made for maximum optical clarity.  Today’s technology allows window films to be extremely effective and unnoticeable from the interior looking out.  For a film that will not be obvious from the exterior, choose from our large selection of films.

Can window tint be removed?
Yes.  It can be removed.
